Second Semester Start

BLOG READING SURVEY

Hello again!
It's time to kick-off the second semester!!

I am trying some changes this semester:

1. BLOGGING
We will be writing 5-6 blogs each nine weeks.
We will NOT be turning them in through Google Classroom.
I will be checking out their portfolios throughout the nine weeks to make sure they are on track.

2. CODING
This nine weeks we are focusing on finishing COURSE D.

BUT, if anyone hasn't finished Course C they have until the interim (Feb. 23rd) to still get full credit.
Anyone that finished Course C the second nine weeks is starting off with TEN BONUS POINTS!

3. ART
Yes, we have a BIG digital art project coming up!
Headshots have been taken and we are going to be starting soon.

4. SHORTCUT QUIZ
Everyone has taken (or will be taking) the shortcut quiz.
We will be taking the quiz AGAIN in the near future and I will be giving them their HIGHEST score.

The Week of HOUR OF CODE at NORTH ROAD

First I want to start by saying:  I AM SO PROUD of the 5th grade students at North Road.  They were all ROCK STARS during the Hour of Code.  Many of them not only completed the course that they had chosen but went on to complete two, three and sometimes even more of the themed lessons.
I literally had goosebumps as I walked from room to room watching their progress and dealing with minor technical issues.

I will be posting MANY pictures on the school website so be sure to stop in there as well and check them out.

GRADES:  Parents, I'm doing the best that I can.
I know it's going to sound like I'm making an excuse but my reality is 200 students times every project/assignment they do.
That's my job....and I love it....but I'm grading as fast as I can.

The Hour of Code this week definitely put a kink in my timeline because I was busy setting that up and seeing that it would be smooth sailing the day of the event.

I'm on it!  I've got NINJA FOCUS.

Back to work....

Well, we are getting back to work this week starting with blog #5.
Remember, there are TWO places students can see what they need to know about the blog:
1. on the calendar on my webpage BUT remember if students added me to their own calendar they can just click on the waffle and then calendar and they will find it there
2. on my webpage - on the calendar posted there or on the BLOGS page.

We are also starting to work with Google Docs -- "jumping through hoops" as I like to say and playing with all the tools, settings and tool bars.

COMING SOON!!!
We will be working on an online safety poster project/contest AND getting ready for an artistic project using our faces!

And...of course....KEEP CODING!

Hello Parents...

I have decided that I would try using this blog as a way to contact MORE parents at the SAME time.
There are so many times when I have a little message that I wish I could easily share with everyone....so let's see how this works!!

I have recently added a calendar to my webpage that I am teaching the students how to "subscribe" to so they can see it on their own calendar.  I also wanted a better way for YOU to see what we are working on in class.

Both posted assignments, Blog #4 and Grateful Meme, are not officially due until November 27th and I will continue grading them after the break.

I hope everyone has an AWESOME Thanksgiving!!
